A Third Floor Perspective // Ecclesiastes

What does the Bible's most puzzling book have to say about the frustration, exhaustion, and apparent meaninglessness of everyday life? In this message from Heritage Baptist Church, Pastor Dave Ashburn walks through the Book of Ecclesiastes — exploring the "sandpaper wisdom" of the Preacher as he searches for satisfaction in wisdom, pleasure, and work, only to find it all "hevel": fleeting, erratic, and absurd. But Ecclesiastes isn't a pessimistic book. It's an invitation to see life from a higher vantage point — from the ground floor of frustration, up to the second floor of gratitude for God's good gifts, all the way to the third floor perspective of fearing and trusting a God who will one day make all things right. Ultimately, the Preacher leaves us longing for something — and Someone — more. Ecclesiastes points us to Jesus, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge, and who will one day write every wrong and make all things new.
