BaptismBeliever’s Baptism
At Heritage, we believe Christian Baptism is an ordinance of the church to display our faith in the crucified, buried, and risen Savior with the effect of such faith being our death to sin and resurrection to a new life.
Baptisms are currently being held during Sunday service as needed. If you are interested in being baptized you can sign up below.
What is baptism?
Baptism is a Christian’s joyful and obedient testimony of rebirth. It is a display of the believer’s faith in the crucified, buried, and raised Christ by immersion into water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Who is baptism for?
Baptism is for believers who have professed faith in the gracious Lord Jesus, who has borne their sins and risen again. It is an external, visible expression of the inward reality of faith in Christ.
Why is baptism important?
Baptism is a command given to the church in the Great Commission (Matt. 28:18-20). It is tied to the good news that Jesus has saved sinners from death and given them life; thus, it displays and proclaims the gospel (Romans 6:3-5). Baptism is important both as a command to be obeyed and a picture to be displayed. Finally, baptism is tied to the body of Christ. Believers are baptized into one body (1 Corinthians 12:13).
Is baptism required for membership?
Yes, we believe that baptism precedes and is tied to covenant church membership. In order to be a covenant member at Heritage, we require believer’s baptism.
What if my child desires to be baptized?
We find great joy in telling and teaching children about Jesus (Matt. 19:14). We want to walk alongside parents whose child expresses a desire to be baptized. If you have questions about whether or not your child is ready for baptism, please email Pastor Joshua’s assistant at kids@hbclynchburg.com.
I'm unsure about baptism, who do I talk to?
We want to encourage you in the way you need it most as you assess taking this step. Please reach out to Zach Martin at zdmartin@hbclynchburg.com if you have any questions or concerns about this process.
