A King's Grace to a Dead Dog
rmon Outline: https://kings-grace-sermons-57wou8y.gamma.site/ What is grace? Is it just a theological concept, or is it an invitation into a relationship with a living God? In this message, we dive into the powerful Old Testament narrative of 2 Samuel 9:1–13, exploring the beautiful, unexpected story of King David and Mephibosheth. In the ancient Near East, a new king typically eliminated the household of his predecessor to secure the throne. Instead, King David actively seeks out Mephibosheth—the disabled grandson of his mortal enemy, Saul—not to destroy him, but to pour out lavish kindness upon him for the sake of a covenant promise. Through this sermon, we explore seven powerful observations from this passage that show how grace humbles us, gives us a new identity, and shifts our perspective from what we think we "deserve" to radical gratitude. More importantly, we look at the "grace shape" of Scripture to see how this touching story ultimately points us to Jesus Christ. We are all like Mephibosheth—spiritually broken former enemies of God—who have been invited by the King of Kings to sit, feast, and dwell at His royal table for eternity purely by His grace.
