The Snake Crushers of Exodus

Dive into Exodus 1 and 2 with us as we explore the foundational nature of God as the living God, the Creator and Sustainer of life! This sermon, ""The Snake Crushers of Exodus,"" draws powerful connections between the creation account in Genesis and the early chapters of Exodus, revealing God's unwavering plan for life even in the face of death and destruction. Discover how language and imagery from Genesis are masterfully woven throughout Exodus, highlighting God's character as the God of life. We'll examine what it means to fear the God of life in a culture marked by death, and to serve the God of creation in a world full of destruction. Join us as we witness the incredible ""snake crushing"" power of God through the courageous actions of six women—Shiphrah, Puah, the daughter of Levi, Miriam, Pharaoh's daughter, and her maidservant—who all played a vital role in preserving life and subverting Pharaoh's destructive plans. See how God uses the most unlikely individuals to accomplish His purposes, ultimately leading to the rescue of His people. This sermon will encourage you to live as a person of abundant life, connected to our Creator, and to bravely proclaim life in a dying culture, just as those who came before us. We'll be reminded of the ultimate snake-crushing power of Jesus, who conquered death and offers new creation to all who believe. Key takeaways: The continuity of creation themes from Genesis in Exodus. The significance of "nephesh" (souls) and "yatsa" (to come out) in connecting Exodus to Genesis. How the Israelites' fruitfulness and multiplication echoed God's original command in the Garden of Eden. Pharaoh's cunning mirroring the serpent in Genesis 3. The bravery and God-fearing nature of the Hebrew midwives, Shiphrah and Puah. The symbolic parallels between Moses' ark and Noah's Ark. The unexpected role of Pharaoh's daughter in preserving Moses' life. The ultimate snake-crushing victory of Jesus Christ. No matter what challenges you face, take comfort in the generations who have stood firm in faith and the promise of Christ's return, when heaven will come to earth and life everlasting will be ushered in!
