Building RenovationsBuilding Renovation FAQs
Why are we embarking on this project?
- Phase 2: Expanding the Worship Center gives us the incredible opportunity to worship together for each service. By increasing our internal building capacity, we are also increasing our capacity to accomplish mission: Making followers of Jesus Christ by living the gospel life among the nations. There are also necessary replacements needed for the HVAC and lighting in the Worship Center that need to be done regardless of expansion, so it is an opportunity to expand and replace at the same time.
- Phase 3: Building an adjoining Education Building would provide needed space and security for our children. It would also provide spaces for senior adult classes that are in close proximity to the Worship Center.
Does this project represent the full vision for the facility?
This project is part of a bigger picture that began in 2007 with the construction of our current Worship Center (Phase 1). What we’re proposing now would be considered Phase 2, which is adding seats to our current Worship Center, some required upgrades to infrastructure, and a redesign of the International Plaza to make it more functional. Phase 3 would involve the construction of a new Education Building which would allow our children’s ministries to be more unified & centrally located, along with some new classrooms for our senior members that are in close proximity to the Worship Center.
How long will construction take?
- Approximately 7 months in totality for Phase 2.
- It is unknown at this time how long Phase 3 will take.
Will the church go into debt to complete these renovations?
- Yes; however, the total amount of debt will be realized only after the capital campaign and the sacrificial giving of our congregation.
What is the cost of the project?
- Phase 2 is projected to cost $4.8 million.
- Estimated cost of Phase 3 is $6 million.
How much money do we need to raise?
- We desire to raise as much money as possible in order to borrow as little as possible. We are praying that the Lord will provide the full amount through the gifts and pledges of our congregation.
What will these renovations accomplish?
- Phase 2 renovations: First, the renovations will provide additional seating capacity in the Worship Center so that our congregants can worship together, while giving us some room to continue to grow in attendance. These renovations also include a necessary replacement & update of our HVAC system for the Worship Center and International Plaza, along with a replacement & upgrade of all the lights in the Worship Center, both of which are sorely needed. Finally, these renovations will allow us to repurpose the International Plaza into a truly communal space which can be better utilized for connection among the body.Â
- Phase 3 renovations: These renovations would provide some very needed additions to the kids ministry area. The renovation would provide classroom space for Team 56 kids, new nursery facilities, and we would be able to move 1st-4th grade to under the chapel. This would provide increased safety measures by having our children areas in a much more central location. This renovation would also provide a couple of senior classes with close proximity to the Worship Center and on the same level.
What spaces are going to be affected?
- Phase 2:Â All of the classrooms adjoined to the Worship Center – United Kingdom, France, Germany, & Greece; as well as the Resource Library and storage room (Russia) will no longer be available for use once construction begins. The International Plaza will also experience some dishevelment during construction as we look to enhance the IP area for community and connection.
- Phase 3: This renovation would be a new building with very little disruption to our current building during construction. There will be a time of renovating under the chapel which would disrupt things for a short time.
Will we have to meet somewhere else for services during construction?
We are hopeful for very minimal disruptions during the Phase 2 process, but there may be a select few Sundays where we would meet in the Plaza and elsewhere around campus while stagework is being completed. But overall, we are thankful for the creative solutions English has provided that mean the Worship Center will remain largely unaffected by the renovations.
Why don’t we plant a new church in the area rather than try to create more space here?
While we are favorable to the idea of a church plant, we would want to go about that carefully & strategically. The saturation of Christians and churches in our area make a local church plant strategically problematic; to do it well we would desire to plant outside of our vicinity. Additionally, pursuing a church plant will not solve or meet our current capacity needs.
What will happen to the overflow seating in the IP?
We strongly desire our church to be able to gather together in one room for worship & the teaching of the Word. At times, that hasn’t always been possible based on the size of our congregation and the limits of our meeting space. Our desire with this Worship Center expansion is that each service would no longer need to be separated into two rooms. This expansion would incorporate all those who sit in the IP, and would still leave us room for some continued growth in the future.
Will more parking be added?
We are diligently exploring options to alleviate the felt need for more parking. However, given the constraints of our property’s landscape/topography and what would be required to construct more parking spaces, it is an expense that is outside the scope of what we are looking to accomplish at this time.
How can I support the church during this project?
As we consider the options before us, please join us in praying for wisdom, discernment, and clarity from the Lord! In addition to prayer, as a member we desire your involvement in this process. Please come to the town hall meetings where these things are being discussed, be willing to engage with the information and ask questions, and exercise your role as a covenant member by voting on these matters. Finally, be in prayer personally, seeking the Lord regarding what he would have you sacrificially give towards these endeavors.
