Student Ministries 411- October 21st

Youth Tomorrow at 6:45 PM!

This week is the final week of our Minor Prophet, Major Message series. We will wrap up with Habakkuk chapter 3. In our passage we’ll see Habakkuk pray to the Lord and emphasize the ways God has acted on behalf of His people in the past. Then, Habakkuk closes by affirming his deep trust in the Lord regardless of the hardships ahead of him.

Here are some questions you could ask this week:

1.) What are the times in your life where you most need to rely on God’s strength?

2.) How can remembering what God has done in the past help us in our current situation?

3.) How can we find joy in the middle of hard circumstances?

4.) Had God ever done something in your life that amazed you or made you stand in awe of Him? If so, what was it?

Parents,

Thank you for allowing your children and teens to be a part of HBC Wednesday Night Activities. Whether that’s in AWANA or Youth group, we are genuinely grateful that you are entrusting us with your kids for not only a time of fun and friends but also learning about God and His Word, and how that can be applied to everyday life.

We want to provide not only an environment that fosters the above but also is a safe place for your family to be. For the safety of our children and families, we need to address a concern regarding parking and pick-up procedures on Wednesday nights.

Please do not park or wait below the playground area unless you are in a designated parking spot. That area is not a pick-up line, and vehicles pulling in and out—or stopping off to the side—are creating unsafe conditions as children walk between cars. This includes either side of the fire line and up next to the grass.

We understand this may make drop-off/pickup take a little longer or require you to teach your kids to meet you elsewhere. It is a pain, however, with days getting darker and such a fantastic turnout of families on our Wednesday nights, the opportunity for an accident is high.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe environment for everyone. Our goal is to prevent an accident before one occurs, and your partnership is essential in doing so.

The South Portico by the Youth rooms and East Main Entrance are more natural pick-up lines, and we encourage families to drop off/pickup in these areas where there is not so much congestion.

If you have recommendations or questions, please reach out to me directly, and I will do whatever I can to work with you to find a resolution. If we can make the area below the playground flow safely and effectively, I am more than willing to accommodate that, so please come alongside us and help us consider ways to improve our campus.

I will be at the workday on October 25th, so if you want to meet or talk with me in person, please introduce yourself to me. I’m also always floating around campus and welcome any input on how we can make HBC a safer place for you and your family.

Respectfully,
Kendrick Rozelle

October Book Recommendation

“One of the great joys of pastoral ministry is the equipping of God’s people to do the work He has called them into, work that exists both inside and outside the church building (homes, schools, places of work, etc.). Specifically in my ministry area, I desire to equip parents and teens alike with truths that will both encourage their hearts and call them forward into greater likeness to Christ. I’m grateful for good books, literature that reminds us that even in our fallen condition we as creation can continue to emit God’s glory as Creator, and that the consumption of quality writing can be used by God to great effect in our lives. With that in mind, I want to use our 411 space to monthly give you a book recommendation, a book that the Lord has used to great effect in my life, and pray it will bless any who read.

This month I want to encourage Greg Gilbert’s work “Why Trust the Bible?”. In my time as Youth Pastor, and even in my own personal life as a young believer years ago, I recall asking questions around the veracity of Scripture. I knew the Bible was important, but could I come to it confidently? This very question is one teens ask often…and we should be encouraged as they wrestle over questions such as these!

This book by Gilbert is such an insightful resource, a very readable book that digs into questions around linguistic translation, accuracy of copies, and credibility of the writer’s themselves. Ultimately, he builds chapter upon chapter and comes to the focal point of Scripture: Christ Himself. This is a very Christo-directional book as it explores some of the pressing questions around Scripture itself, and I’d highly encourage this book as an aid, that teens (and parents) alike would pick up the Bible with deepened affection and greater confidence!”
