Our Pastors

Pastor Nathan was raised as a missionary kid in the culturally diverse nation of Tanzania, East Africa, and he still considers Tanzania home. Saved at an early age in Kenya, he was baptized in a mud creek in a Maasai village and grew in God’s grace in the local Tanzanian church. He thanks God that he was able to enjoy the beauty of East Africa chasing zebras on his dirt bike, hiking the rugged landscape, and beholding the untamed majesty of the African plains. Growing up around people of different religions and cultures has given him a global perspective and a heart and love for the peoples of the world.

While in college he met his wife Jessica, a home-grown “cheesehead” from Wisconsin, and God has since blessed them with three children: Caden, Lydia, and Jason. The Smiths were initially commissioned by HBC as missionaries to the people of North Africa, but after much prayer, they sensed that God was redirecting them to service here at HBC.

Pastor Nathan holds a Bachelor’s in Biblical Studies and a Master’s in Business Administration from Liberty University, as well as a Master’s of Divinity degree from Columbia International University. He is currently working on a Doctoral degree from The Master's Seminary. Pastor Nathan’s vision for HBC is that God be glorified and for HBC to exemplify in every facet of life the grace that has been given to us in Jesus Christ. This is a broken church filled with broken people all in need of God’s grace, which is God’s undeserved love, favor, and compassion. This understanding of God’s grace begins with a faithful interpretation of the text communicated in a relevant and Christ exalting manner. The faithful teaching of God’s Word should then lead the community of HBC itself to being a culture of grace where people are loved, welcomed, and encouraged to a deep and obedient walk with Christ.
